Sofia Buchuk - “Homenaje a Chile: Canto Libre”

Latin American singer, Sofia Buchuk will be presenting her concert: “Homenaje a Chile: Canto Libre” on Saturday 21 Nov 09 at the St Ethelburga’s  Centre for Reconciliation and Peace in London as part of the Human Cost of War Festival.

The Cuzco-born singer will be performing songs from both the Chilean ‘old guard’ (Violeta Parra and Victor Jara) and the Nueva Cancion Chilena (new chilean song movement) as well as utilising rhythms from Mexico, Chile, Peru & Cuba, supplied from musicians such as Diego Laverde (Colombian Harp), Jhonny Rodriguez (Charango & Panpipes), Venezuelan Cheguevara (Percussion) and poetry from Chilean Maria Eugenia Bravo.

Latin America

Sofia usually sings songs from the entire continent, from the Andes to the coast and from Mexico to Argentina. She also plays pre-columbian instruments such as pan-flutes and seeds from the rain forest.

As a background to the concert there will be an exhibition of quilts from Chile and from Northern Ireland with workshops available also (18th - 21st Nov).
