Well, we have all safely returned from Womex 2009 in Copenhagen Denmark. We have made some great new contacts, met up with many old friends and seen some great new live acts which we shall be reporting on over the coming weeks and months.

We would love to thank our Danish hosts and all the media team at Piranha (especially Bryony for her patience  &  smiles), for doing their best to help us all survive the long days & nights!.

It is hard to say which were the best top acts due to the diversity of music.  We were particularly impressed with the new younger talent on show at the off-WOMEX studio2, especially three Brazilian artists, “Mariana Da Cruz” a singer currently residing in Switzerland, “Cacau Brasil”, and “Alexandre Lima & Mahnimal”.

“Victor Deme” from Burkina Faso was excellent, as was “Parno Graszt” from Hungary; “Deolinda” from Portugal has a smile in her eyes and a voice to match; “Kenge Kenge” from Kenya, “Kouyate-Neerman” (France & Mali), “Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole” from the USA, “Yilila” from Australia and finally “Gilzene and the Blue Light Mento Band” from Jamaica are all worthy of special mention, plus a whole different range of artists who we hope to cover over the coming months.
