Nancy Murillo, like her home city of Cali in Colombia (famous for its women, the 'calenas') is vibrant, warm, beautiful, full of energy.
After gaining a Master of Drama from Del Valle University, she very quickly discovered the essence of this profession: the pleasure of being on stage and communicating with the public. She made her first steps on stage with the Troupe Tecepal from Cali and then toured throughout Colombia with the Teatro Experimental of Cali. She was fascinated and galvanized by performing. But music attracted her more and more and salsa eventually triumphed over her love of theatre.
She joined the La Morada Dance School in Cali, eager to learn everything: singing, contemporary dance and ballet, as well as salsa and folk dancing. All those hours of dance rehearsals carved her the body of a goddess and forged her strong professional mentality. She chose her path. A future star was born.
Her first group, La Gaita, put her on the track to success and she quickly followed that by singing with the Grupo Bahia, a true institution in the region, before going to Bogotá, the capital of Colombia to accompany Azul Amazonas.
Her path seemed all mapped out, but love made her cross the Atlantic to Bordeaux in France. Even so, the passion for music did not abandon her and she joined the band Melting Pot a few months after her arrival. Her desire to perform on stage became stronger and stronger and Nancy decided to leave Bordeaux for Paris to try her luck. There she sang with Calentura, as well as with Azuquita y su Melao.
An important step in her career was meeting the Sombres Heros, a group of young Parisian musicians who play Cumbia (the traditional music of Colombia) and she happily became the singer of the band bringing a specific sparkle and sincerity to the compositions.
Now at the head of her own band, Nancy Murillo has released "TIA YOVA", an album "caliente" with 10 original songs in which she has written or co-written all the lyrics and music. An album to dance to the rhythms of Colombian cumbia and salsa.
Nancy has performed at the following venues (amongst others) as a leader or lead vocalist of the Sombres Héros :
Solidays (Paris), Festival Tous sur le Pont (Blois), Festival de Hammamet (Tunisia), Tempo Latino, Festival de Thau, Festival Des Rives Des Continents (Lille), Kabaréunion, Festival du Bout du Monde (Brittany), Porto Latino, Jazzèbre (Perpignan), Dock des Suds (Marseille), Mundo Latino, Le Mans Jazz Festival, Carnival latinfiest (Thessalonique), New Morning, Cabaret Sauvage, Barrio Latino, La Scène (Paris)...
Nancy's album "Tia Yova" can be heard on streaming services such as Deezer, Spotify, Simfy, etc. She has a second album (of afro-colombian music) called "Mujer Coraje" (2010)
