The Rough Guide To Bachata
[RGNET 1164CD]
Highly infectious this dance music, originally from the Dominican Republic , has now spread further afield into the Americas. The music is centred around guitars and that guitar can easily remind you of Central Africa. I was just reading up about bachata and it said this was very much a working class music with the elite in society viewing bachata parties as ' low-class debauchery' that's enough to get me in the queue! Lots (14) of great tracks and the usual excellent info from Rough Guide, plus an interview with the complier Joan Shenton. Artists include Zacarias Ferreira, Luis Vargas, Antony Santos and Teodoro Reyes. Highly recommended. Graham Radley
